Build a Smart, Wireless Thermostat

A climate-control system, built from cheap parts. This smart, programmable wireless thermostat replacement system is safer, cheaper, and easier than Nest.

How to Replace a Thermostat

When we first moved in, the cabin was full of old (barely-functioning) equipment — some zones were even stuck in the on position! The old Honeywell thermostat instructions were not very helpful, either. This was a problem: it’s cold here, and reliable wireless thermostats can prevent catastrophe.

It’s pretty to replace an old thermostat with a smart thermostat, but it can be very expensive. In keeping with the DIY spirit of the house, we decided to build our own Raspberry Pi thermostat.
